This last Sunday our Delegates from around the island of Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic & the U.S.V.I exercised their power to vote for the incoming Department Commander.
Our N.E.C. Ramon L Rivera and the group selected for our Elections Commitee had the final numbers with Ramon Padilla as our new Department commander after going head-to-head against the other candidate on the ballot Willie Lafontaine. They had both been visiting the post around the island for the last couple of months to listen to what we as veterans need as a whole in our organization.
"We will continue to work on all the programs, collaborations and projects that our Outgoing Department Commander Carmen I Rosario has begun", informed Ramon Padilla whom for the last 3 years has been the auditor for the Department ensuring all our Post and the Department were up to date in Federal and State agencies to maintain good standing.
While we have a new department commander, our 1st Female Department commander in 100 years (Carmen I Rosario) is the President for the American Legion of Puerto Rico Foundation. This will be responsable for ensuring to get funds from sponsors to ensure our programs run effortlessly & to ensure we can as well help our local veterans intime of need, donate to our community efforts and have these efforts centralized in one office to help the Department that currently runs only with a handful of Veterans in a daily basis.
We wish that both incoming and outgoing Department Commanders have a positive year ahead in their endeavors to keep serving our Nations Heroes in our Islands.
