PENFED is so excited to have sent out today the Inaugural Puerto Rico Honor Flight to Washington D.C. and invites everyone to received them in San Juan Airport on Friday.
Many registrations and nominations were made available thanks to the sponsorship of Lone Eagle: Honor Flight and the major sponsor for this special recognition to our Heroes by PENFED in the Island.
It's the Inaugural Puerto Rico Honor Flight to Washington D.C since it began 18 years ago (2005), program that has flown over 244,000 Veterans to Washington DC.
This first selected group of veterans from the Island of Puerto Rico will have Heroes from WWII, the Korean and Vietnam Wars and they will embark on the trip of a lifetime to visit the monuments and memorials in Washington, D.C. honoring their service.
Official details given to The American Legion; Department of Puerto Rico are that they will have a busy 3-day schedule. As seen online they arrived around lunch time to the Capitol and were received and honored by several special guest at the BWI Airport. Then they met at the American Legion Post 136 (Department of Maryland) with some of their Legionnaires and special guest like Representatives from Puerto Rico of our Resident Commissioners Office (Rep. Jennifer Gonzalez-Colon), Rep Glenn Ivey, Councilman Ric Gordon, Mayor Pro Tem Kristen Weaver.
Their journey is schedule to begin right after by visiting the 9/11 & Pentagon Memorial, Iwo Jima, Arlington National Cemetery to view the Changing of the Guard and pay respect to the fallen by laying a wreath in honor of their brother and sister in Arms on their first day there.
Second day is just as eventful with visits to the following Memorials: (Navy, Eisenhower, Disable American Veterans, MLK, WWII) with a final stroll thru the National Mall that will bring them to the Korea and Vietnam Memorials to honor the service of those that served besides them many years ago.
